Various Ways We Can Evangelize for Christ

Jesus charged all Christians to fulfill the great commission and take the gospel unto all the world. He said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). Some of us do not have the opportunity or ability to stand in a pulpit and preach, but that does not mean we cannot use some of the various other methods of evangelism to spread the gospel. Let's review a few of the many different ways we can all evangelize for Christ.
1. Developing friendships and gaining trust. One of the best ways to eventually teach someone the Truth, is to develop a relationship with them. When we befriend people, we gain their trust and the ability to speak to them about more personal matters. It also gives them the opportunity to see the fruits of Christianity in the way we live. Sometimes the greatest sermon we can preach is the example of how we live our day-to-day lives. This is one of the most effective ways to bring souls to Christ.
2. Inviting friends and acquaintances to worship services with us. Sometimes we overlook the obvious because we assume the answer will always be no. We will never know until we try. What is the worst thing that could happen? They may decline your invitations, but at least you will know you have tried. If they do come with you, make sure you follow up by asking them to come with you again.
3. Handing out tracts and reading materials. This is probably one of the easiest things we can do. When you give someone a tract, you are handing him or her the truth of the gospel. Some may take it and throw it away. That's okay. You have done your part by presenting them with an opportunity to read about the gospel. You have put it in their hands where they can make a decision what to do with it. Remember, God does not expect us to convert everyone we contact. God does expect us to present them with the gospel. Tracts are very easy to come by. We keep several different ones at the church building, or you can order your own at very low cost. You can also become very creative when it comes to distributing them. Leave them on restaurant tables after a meal. Put them on car window shields. Simply hand them to people and ask them to read it. You can also give people the "Searching for Truth" DVD that we make available in the church foyer. Giving someone a free DVD is a great way to start up a conversation about the church. Write your name and phone number on the back of the tract or DVD and tell them to call if they have any questions.
4. Refer people to our website, or the many other church websites available on the web. Write the website address down on a business card or piece of paper, and ask people to check it out. The Gospel Broadcasting Network is a great website to recommend (www.gbntv.org). You can also find interesting articles on the various church websites that might interest someone you know. Print the articles out and give them to people who you think may be interested in the topic. This is a great way to strike up conversations about Christ and His church.
5. Don't be afraid to get creative. Christians are always coming up with new and innovative ways to spread the gospel. Use you imagination to figure out different ways to get the good news into more people's hands and hearts. I met one fellow who printed up business cards with his name, phone number, and the plan of salvation on them. He handed them out to people all the time. -Ed
